State Security Service: There are groups in Georgia who are trying to stir up conflict between ethnic Georgians and Azeris

According to the State Security Service, there are groups of individuals and a number of citizens in Georgia who are trying to stir up conflict between ethnic Georgians and Azeris in the Kvemo Kartli and Kakheti regions of Georgia.

The mentioned persons are trying to use the issues emerged in the Kvemo Kartli and Kakheti regions in order to fuel national enmity.

According to the State Security Service, these people are actively using certain issues in the negative context, which poses a clear threat to the peaceful cohabitation of ethnic Azerbaijanis and Georgians.

“The group of individuals tries to portray the situation in their public statements or ideologies as if ethnic Georgian population is given preference compared to other ethnic minorities, which further increases the risks of national conflict.

The State Security Department of the State Security Service is investigating alleged cases of racial discrimination, i.e. actions aimed at degrading national honor and dignity, directly or indirectly restricting human and ethnic rights and fueling national conflict”, reads the statement of the State Security Service.
