Economy Minister : Our tourism industry will not only survive, but will be stronger than ever

It is especially important that the construction of the Bamboo Beach Tsikhisdziri complex begins at a time when the global tourism industry is facing a major challenge and tourism is heavily affected by the global pandemic. This project is important to strengthen the Georgian tourism industry and I am sure that it will be one of the most visible projects in the country's tourism industry, - Natia Turnava, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development said at the presentation of the new project of the development company Redco in Tsikhisdziri.

As InterPressNews was informed by the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the Minister took part in the ceremony of starting the construction of the hotel complex, which should be completed by 2021. The project includes 521 premium class apartments and 119 hotel rooms of Aloft Hotels, part of Marriott International. Tornike Rizhvadze, Head of the Government of Adjara, also took part in the presentation of the hotel complex.

According to Natia Turnava, the total investment of the project is GEL 70 million, and 200 people will be employed directly on construction works. The Minister noted that the hotels of Aloft Hotels, Marriott International's brand, are opened in 25 countries around the world and Georgia also will be listed among those countries.

"This project is symbolic because it starts when hotels in many countries are closed. For us, this is a symbol that despite all the challenges - the pandemic, the global economic crisis, etc., our tourism industry will not only survive, but will be stronger than ever. We have gained a new, unique competitive advantage during this period. Our tourism industry has endured everything. Therefore, it is absolutely right that today we should lay the foundation for new hotels.

The policy of the Government of Georgia, which is aimed at supporting the affected tourism sector, is quite effective and amid this situation it is possible not only to maintain existing hotels, but also to start construction of new complexes. I am sure that this will be a precondition for an even stronger tourism sector in Georgia. We are coming out of this crisis stronger than we were, ”Natia Turnava said.

The infrastructure of the Bamboo Beach Tsikhisdziri complex includes: a port, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, aqua park, children's playground, spa and fitness center, conference hall, open and closed parking lots, restaurants and bars. The complex will be located in the first lane of the coast, which is surrounded by bamboo forest.
