Amiran Gamkrelidze: 23 people have been infected with Covid-19 in the “Saburtalo cluster” and 103 contacts have been identified

According to Amiran Gamkrelidze, Head of the National Center for Disease Control, 23 people have been infected with Covid-19 in the “Saburtalo cluster” and 103 contacts have been identified.

As he said at the briefing at the governmental administration, although Georgia remains a certain oasis compared to the countries around us, "we have no reason to calm down and we should not have the illusion that we have defeated the coronavirus."

"We had a serious micro-explosion in the “Saburtalo cluster”, the source of which was a healthcare worker of one of the hospitals. At present, 23 people are infected in this cluster. We have already examined 103 contacts, 42 of them have been quarantined and others are in self-isolation.

Although Georgia remains a certain oasis compared to the countries around us, we have no reason to calm down and we should not have the illusion that we have defeated the coronavirus. If we do not follow the recommendations of the State, we may have more explosions. These cases, which we have had for the last three days, are not dangerous and we have no reason to panic. We know the origin of all cases and it is manageable. There are enough beds in the country, we have enough trained medical staff and all this is manageable,” said Amiran Gamkrelidze.
