Court orders pre-trial detention for Chairman of Tsalenjikha Municipal Assembly

The Zugdidi District Court has ordered pre-trial detention for the Chairman of Tsalenjikha Municipal Assembly and another person detained together with him. Thus, the judge granted the motion of the Prosecutor's Office.

Defendant Temur Gvinjilia, Chairman of Tsalenjikha Municipal Assembly, uses his right to remain silent, while another defendant, Mate Gvinjilia, who is also an employee of the Tsalenjikha Municipal Assembly, says that he received the cigarettes by a person living in Abkhazia and he was going to distribute the cigarettes to his relatives.

The above persons were arrested for transporting a large amount of goods without an excise stamp on July 26.

According to the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, 8,310 boxes of cigarettes have been seized as a result of the search, the estimated value of which exceeds 34,000 GEL.

The detainees 6-8 years in prison if convicted.
