Alexander Lukashenko has accused the opposition of plotting a coup

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has accused the opposition of plotting a coup, - reports BBC.

During the meeting with members of the Security Council, Lukashenko said that the 35-member Coordinating Council, formed by opposition presidential candidate Svetlana Tsikhanovskaya, whose members are artists, writers and businessmen, was seeking to grab power.

"They only demand the transfer of power. They demand nothing less than the transfer of power. We see it unequivocally: it is an attempt to seize power... with all the consequences that come with it" - stated Lukashenko.

For the record, the protests in Belarus haven't stopped after the August 9 presidential election. Protesters say massive vote-rigging has taken place and the winner is not Alexander Lukashenko but the opposition candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya. They demand the resignation of President Alexander Lukashenko. Hundreds of people were injured in clashes with police during the protests, and two protesters were killed.
