Sergey Lavrov: I would like to hope that the resumption of air traffic with Georgia is a matter of the near future

We are closely monitoring the state of affairs in Georgia. I would like to hope that the resumption of air traffic is a matter of the near future, - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated in an interview with Trud newspaper.

"I would like to hope that the resumption of air traffic is a matter of the near future. We are closely monitoring the state of affairs in Georgia. Of course, we are waiting for a general normalization of the sanitary and epidemiological situation in the region and in the world, opening of regular flights to other destinations", - noted Lavrov, according to Russian media.

Lavrov also expressed hope that the political dialogue between Georgia and Russia, which had been suspended due to a pandemic, would be resumed in the Karasin-Abashidze format.

"Russia has always valued friendly ties with the Georgian people, with whom we have lived in a single state under different names for more than one century", - stated the Russian FM.

For the record, the direct air traffic between Georgia and Russia was suspended on July 8, 2019.
