Pre-trial detention ordered for Rugby Union Vice-President

Merab Beselia, Vice-President of the Rugby Union, has been sent to pre-trial custody.

At today's trial, which was held remotely, the defense filed a motion for the release of the defendant on bail of GEL 20,000, while the Prosecutor's Office requested the use of detention as a measure of restraint.

According to Merab Beselia's lawyer, Paata Mekhrishvili, the accused agrees with the factual circumstances of the incident, however, but not with the formulation of charges.

Merab Beselia is charged with intentionally inflicting serious injuries to the health with rugby player Ramaz Kharazishvili.
