Mikheil Saakashvili: Our offer to European Georgia was to form a list composed on an equal basis and to have a separate agreement on the prime minister, while the post of the speaker of parliament would be theirs

According to the former President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, the National Movement offered European Georgia to form a list composed on an equal basis, but the offer has been refused. As Saakashvili noted on TV Pirveli, he sees himself as the head of the transitional government.

"I have always been and remain a supporter of unity. At first my offer was for all opposition groups to make a single list and choose a candidate for the prime minister’s post. Of course, it would not be me. Many groups rejected this offer and so it failed. Our second offer to European Georgia was to form a list composed on an equal basis and to have a separate agreement on the prime minister, while the post of the speaker of parliament would be theirs. And we have not said anything about my candidacy for the PM’s post. This offer was also rejected by them for some reasons.

Now the United National Movement, along with the United Opposition, has made a list of many worthy people and nominated me as a prime ministerial candidate. I am convinced that this union has the full potential to win the majority in the next parliament of Georgia and then to form a new government of Georgia with a wide representation both inside and outside the country, which will be based on the principle that any old disagreement will be put aside and no one will think about revenge. We should think about reconstruction, advancement and development. I'm sure it will happen so.

Completely new people should come to Georgian politics. I see my role as the head of the transitional government. We must bring the country out of the swamp, stabilize it, establish new rules of the game, and hand over power to an entirely new generation. We should be happy with only one thing - the success of our country," Saakashvili said.
