State Security Service: The Russian Federation bears full responsibility for the illegal detentions in the occupied territories of Georgia

The State Security Service has issued a statement on the illegal detention of Irakli Bebua, a Georgian citizen, in the Gali district of occupied Abkhazia.

According to the statement, the incident was immediately reported to the EUMM and the hotline has been activated.

"The State Security Service of Georgia has informed the co-chairs of the Geneva talks and international partners about the illegal detention. Active work is underway to release the person immediately.

Representatives of the occupation regime confirmed the identity of the person illegally detained; they provided information about his current whereabouts and state of health via hotline. According to the available data, the illegally detained person is in Gali, his health condition is satisfactory and his life is not in danger.

The Russian Federation bears full responsibility for the cases of illegal detention of people in the occupied territories of Georgia and for their health. This process, led by the occupation regime, significantly worsens the security environment along the occupation line, as well as in the occupied territories, and complicates the daily life of the local population. Therefore, it is important to release the illegally detained person unconditionally," reads the statement.
