Amiran Gamkrelidze: We have an increase in cases and it will continue

The number of new cases today - 3128 - does not give us grounds to calm us down, because we do not yet have a decrease, on the contrary, we have an increase and it will continue, - Head of the National Center for Disease Control, Amiran Gamkrelidze said after the Interagency Coordination Council meeting.

According to him, there are several institutions that work on forecast and based on them, there will be an increase in new cases and mortality rate in the first week of December, therefore, it is necessary for Georgia to tighten the enforcement of existing regulations and to add and expand the restrictions.

"Recently, we have exceeded 4,000 daily cases and we can say that we have entered the peak. The lower number of today’s cases is related to the weekends and the holiday. That’s why the number of new cases today - 3128 - does not give us grounds to calm us down. We do not yet have a decrease, on the contrary, we have an increase and it will continue. And we do not know for how long the peak period will last”, said Gamkrelidze.
