People opposing of the construction of Namakhvani HPP are protesting in the central square of Kutaisi.

The protesters are demanding Enka, the construction company of the HPP Cascade, to leave the Rioni Gorge and the permit for the construction of the HPP in the gorge to be revoked.

According to Varlam Goletiani, one of the organizers of the rally, the rally is apolitical. According to him, if their demands are not met, they will be divided into small groups and will continue to take turns in the Rioni Valley.

The supporters of the rally are joining the demonstration from regions, according to them they express solidarity to people "who don't want their soil to be expropriated for 100 years". Representatives of non-governmental organizations and politicians also joined the rally.

For the record, the protest of part of the population of the Rioni Valley has been going on for 126 days, they spend the night in tents.
