Charles Michel: I would like to take this opportunity to once again send you a message of friendship from the European Union

"The European Union wants to continue standing by Georgia, protect your sovereignty, your territorial integrity," European Council President Charles Michel said at a joint briefing after a face-to-face meeting with Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili.

As Charles Michel noted, the EU is concerned about the political crisis in Georgia.

"My meeting today here, as well as yesterday's meeting in Moldova and tomorrow’s meeting in Ukraine, is a message of partnership. The EU wants to continue standing by Georgia, to protect your sovereignty, your territorial integrity. We know that the region is very complex. We support ambitions, in order to implement reforms and stabilize the Covid-19 crisis that we have to deal with both here and around the world. I would like to take this opportunity to once again send you a message of friendship from the European Union. As you know, my visit is being carried out amid the political crisis. This, of course, worries the EU and me personally. The EU calls on all parties to work intensively to neutralize the situation. During my meeting with the opposition and the government, I will call for responsible actions," Charles Michel said.

According to him, Georgia has all the necessary resources to create political stability.

"In the afternoon, I will have the opportunity to meet and have a frank and open conversation with the Prime Minister, as well as with the Speaker of Parliament and the leaders of the opposition parties. I know that political debates definitely need "leadership", they need the involvement of all partie," said Charles Michel.
