Christian Danielsson: EU is resolutely engaged to help Georgia to overcome the political crisis, but, of course, the responsibility is for political leaders here

The EU is resolutely engaged to help Georgia to overcome the present political crisis. But, of course, the responsibility for it is not for European Union, it is for political leaders here, - Christian Danielsson, Personal Envoy of European Council of President Charles Michel, said after meeting with ambassadors and NGOs yesterday.

According to him, a compromise between the government and the opposition is very important for the future of Georgia.

"Compromise is very important for the future of Georgia. Since my last mission here I've had contacts in Brussels, with all those in European institutions who are engaged in relations with Georgia, that includes of course President Michel, EEAS, European Commission, European Parliament. I can inform you that you that EU is resolutely engaged to help Georgia to overcome the present political crisis. But, of course, the responsibility for it is not for European Union, it is for political leaders here. I think also that we have, over last mission when I was here, got a good understanding of issues”, he said.

Danielsson also noted that political leaders know what needs to be done to find an agreement.

“It's for them to move forwards, it's for them to find a compromise. I and the team always support these efforts, let me assure you that we will do our most when it comes to that support. Now there is need for political courage, there is need for compromise. Let me point out that the compromise is not weakness, compromise is strength, compromise is a sing of democracy in Georgia working; compromise is European way", - stated Danielsson.
