Charles Michel: I am tonight in Brussels, but my heart is tonight in Georgia

I am tonight in Brussels, but my heart is tonight in Georgia, - European Council President Charles Michel thus addressed political leaders of Georgia in the Orbeliani Palace.

He thanked all who signed an agreement and put differences aside, in the interests of Georgia

“I am tonight in Brussels, but my heart is tonight in Georgia. Six weeks ago I met with you all in Tbilisi and you remember I told you to launch a political dialogue, to set aside the political stalemate in your country and we met at the Presidential Palace, where you are meeting tonight. The presidential institution is the symbol of Georgia’s unity. I put on the table five substantive points that needed to be addressed to overcome the challenges and I promised you that I would remain engaged and appointed my personal envoy, Mr Danielsson, who visited Georgia twice and held many meetings with all of you. I asked my diplomatic team to support very actively this process. And six weeks later, the political crisis is over. I want to thank you all for your commitment and courage for putting your differences aside, in the interests of Georgia. I’d like to thank the diplomatic team who worked tirelessly with you, as well as Mr Christian Danielsson, Ambassador Hartzell and Ambassador Degnan. We appreciate all your efforts. I am thankful to the Prime Minister for his vision. Thanks to political leaders and elected members of the opposition parties for your courage and your courageous political choices. Madam President, I would like also to thank you. We were in close contact throughout this period. You shared advice with me. It was extremely useful for me. Thank you for your wisdom”, President Michel said.
