Shalva Papuashvili: Nika Melia wrote that the case in the Strasbourg court is "Nika Melia against the Georgian Dream", it seems that he finds it embarrassing to say that he is filing a lawsuit against Georgia

This is an attempt to raise the issue in terms of PR using international institutions, - this is how Shalva Papuashvili, a member of the parliamentary majority, assessed the lawsuit of Nika Melia, the chairman of the United National Movement, which was accepted by the Strasbourg court.

According to Papuashvili, society saw with its own eyes how Nika Melia violated the law when he removed the electronic bracelet.

"It all happened in front of us, he removed the bracelet in front of us, he said in front of us that he does not obey the law and justice, he said he wouldn't pay bail and could not be arrested, all this was followed by a lawful response. Then we heard from him that he would not accept bail and anyone who would pay bail would be his enemy. Finally, we saw how it all ended. He has been arrested by the judiciary, bail has been paid, amnesty will also be issued, it is now just an attempt to raise the issue in terms of PR using international institutions. I assure you that there is no problem with the content. We saw how Nika Melia was violating the law", - Papuashvili said.

For information, the European Court of Human Rights has accepted the case on the arrest of Nika Melia, the chairman of the United National Movement, and sent the relevant questions to the respondent side. Nika Melia's lawyer Dimitri Sadzaglishvili confirmed the information to InterpressNews. According to him, the lawsuit is directly related to the arrest of Nika Melia and in this context the Strasbourg court is inquiring with the Georgian authorities about possible political detention and political persecution.
