According to the so-called Foreign Ministry of occupied Abkhazia, by expressing support for Georgia's territorial integrity, NATO countries are backing what has finally ceased to exist as a political and legal reality as a result of the criminal actions of the Tbilisi regime led by Mikheil Saakashvili in 2008. The so-called Foreign Ministry issued a statement in response to the statement released after the NATO summit.
“The final statement of the NATO Summit traditionally calls on Russia to "withdraw its troops from Georgia", to renounce the recognition of Abkhazia's independence and to fulfill the mythical "ceasefire agreement". The absurdity of these demands is obvious to any sensible observer. The political and legal act of recognition of the Republic of Abkhazia was fully in line with the norms and principles of international law and did not require ratification by other states. Bilateral defense and security treaties signed by Moscow and Sokhumi also do not contradict the norms of international law. By expressing support for Georgia's territorial integrity, NATO countries are backing what has finally ceased to exist as a political and legal reality as a result of the criminal actions of the Tbilisi regime led by Mikheil Saakashvili in 2008," reads the statement.
According to the “Foreign Ministry”, the above move of NATO could seriously worsen the security situation in the South Caucasus and ultimately disrupt the work of participants and international mediators, which is aimed at achieving a mutually acceptable outcome within the Geneva talks.
The communiqué issued after the NATO summit in Brussels states that the leaders of the Alliance reaffirm their support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova within their internationally recognized borders. At the same time, NATO countries urged Russia to withdraw troops from the occupied regions of Georgia and revoke the recognition of "independence” of the occupied regions.
