Badri Japaridze: For those who have difficulty in reading and understanding, the US embassy highlighted in the document that the appointment of judges should be paused

For those who have difficulty in reading and understanding, the US embassy highlighted in the document that the appointment of judges should be paused until the implementation of reforms, - Lelo MP Badri Japaridze told reporters.

He said that the United States views justice reform as a vital issue for Georgia and that work on sanctions has begun.

"Pausing the appointment of judges (as written in Michel's document) means suspension until the reforms are implemented. The argument of the government is ridiculous. The US embassy has even released a document, where it highlighted for people who have difficulty in reading and understanding that the appointment of judges to the Supreme Court should be paused until reforms are implemented. The US sees justice reform as a vital reform for Georgia, and they have invested a lot in implementing reforms. Of course, no one will turn a blind eye to the fact that the money invested was practically squandered by the clan. So the statements of some judges that our strategic partner's support for specific initiatives in terms of reforms is a violation of sovereignty are dishonest statements, as we are talking about our strategic partner’s support for our people and for specific judges who are members of the clan or are under the influence of the clan.

I can tell you that we should expect sanctions, as the process has begun. I would like to note this with great satisfaction, as sanctions have worked very effectively in the case of Bulgaria in relation to particular judges. Our friends have started a similar process in Georgia and we fully support it”, said Japaridze.
