Patriarchate: Individuals or church leaders can apply in writing to the management of TV channels and inform that they do not want to communicate with their journalists

It is true that there was some misconduct on the part of the clergy, but it is purposeful to generalize the specific cases and focus on the violence by clergymen, - the Georgian Patriarchate says in a statement, where the agency covers the July 5-6 events.

According to the statement, specific TV channels "voice biased assessments and baseless accusations, deliberately distort facts and try to irritate respondents with provocative questions."

"The Georgian Church has been under serious attack by certain forces for a long time; After the events of July 5-6, the situation in our media space became more aggravated and extremely aggressive.

Hate speech is especially distinguished by the Main Channel, TV Pirveli and Formula, which broadcast directly and reluctantly insult against the Georgian Patriarchate, Catholicos-Patriarch, priests and parishioners; Threats and calls for retaliation are also heard.

Often the journalists of the mentioned TV channels (we think, on the instructions of their supervisors), instead of covering information objectively, voice biased assessments and baseless accusations, deliberately distort facts and try to irritate respondents with provocative questions; Then, out of context, the stories are aired in such a way that the viewer perceives the clergyman as violent.

It is true that some misconduct took place on the part of few clergyman, but it is purposeful to generalize individual case and focus on the violence of the clergymen in general. They do not even mention how many clergymen saved the same journalists during the July 5-6 violence. At the same time, of course, they do not expose the organizers and supporters of Tbilisi Pride, their psychological violence, provocative statements or actions”, reads the statement.

According to the Patriarchate, the norms of journalistic ethics are grossly violated, there is still a public demonstration of psychological violence and obstruction of civil peace, which for some reason remains unnoticed by embassies and the non-governmental sector.

According to the statement, based on laws, individuals or church leaders can apply in writing to the management of TV channels and inform that they do not want to communicate with their journalists.

“It is also advisable to place an appropriate notice at the entrance to the temple courtyard.

In case of non-compliance with the request, upon request, the police are obliged to restrict the movement of such journalists in your area!" reads the statement.
