Shalva Papuashvili: Constitutional amendments should be the result of discussion and reconciliation, it shouldn't be about discussions whose results are known in advance - April 19 agreement no longer exists

Member of the parliamentary majority Shalva Papuashvili made an explanation regarding the implementation of the constitutional amendments and noted that the discussion on the amendments will start without anticipation or prior agreement on the result.

"As for the constitutional amendments, we are entering into this discussion without prior prediction or agreement on the result and we are ready for this discussion.

This is what constitutional framework is, the constitutional amendments should be the result of deliberation, discussion, reconciliation, it should not be about discussions whose results are known in advance.

Therefore the arguments and the result of the reasoning which we will all consider to be rational, including the result of universal public debate, will be the result of constitutional changes. There will simply not be pre-determined results", - Papuashvili said.

An explanation made by one of the leaders of the parliamentary majority regarding the constitutional amendments caused misunderstanding for Salome Samadashvili, a member of the Lelo-Partnership Georgia faction, who asked for clarification whether this meant that the majority would not accept the constitutional amendments in the form agreed upon under the April 19 Agreement.

"Are you saying that you will not accept the constitutional amendments in the form in which we agreed under the April 19 agreement? It was part of the agreement, the kind of changes that we were to make in the constitution, and are you revising it?" - Samadashvili addressed Shalva Papuashvili, in response to which Papuashvili noted that the April 19 agreement no longer exists.
