So-called Abkhazian foreign ministry: Georgian Parliament resolution on de-occupation and peaceful settlement of Russia-Georgia conflict is disconnected from reality

The so-called ministry of foreign affairs of occupied Abkhazia assesses the resolution adopted by the Parliament of Georgia on de-occupation and the peaceful settlement of the Russian-Georgian conflict as "disconnected from reality".

"The efforts of the Georgian authorities to present the Abkhazian-Georgian conflict as 'Russian-Georgian' have no justification and are an attempt to remove the burden of their own crimes and avoid responsibility", - the so-called ministry said in the statement.

At the same time, the de facto foreign ministry calls on the international mediators in the Geneva talks to "recognize the actions committed by the Georgian authorities in 1992-1993 and 2008 as crime and to facilitate the signing of an agreement on non-use of force between Abkhazia and Georgia".

Yesterday, the Georgian parliament passed a resolution on de-occupation and the peaceful settlement of the Russian-Georgian conflict with 91 votes. The resolution adopted by the Parliament confirms that the strengthening of Georgia's sovereignty and the peaceful restoration of its territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, the de-occupation of Georgian territories and the safe and dignified return of internally displaced persons and refugees to their homes are Georgia's top priorities. At the same time, the resolution condemns the Russian occupation of the regions of Georgia - Abkhazia and Tskhinvali - and the steps towards their annexation, calls on the Russian Federation to de-occupy Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region, to abolish their illegal so-called recognition of independence, to end ethnic violence and crimes, and to engage in a constructive manner in the Geneva international discussions.
