Mikheil Saakashvili: Now it is time to save Georgia and the most necessary thing for that is unity, we should refuse revenge and we should reconcile

I cannot stand aside and watch the destruction of our homeland, I’d rather to die, that's why I'm here! – reads a letter sent by the third President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili from the penitentiary institution, which was read by his lawyer Nika Gvaramia at a rally demanding in Freedom Square.

According to Mikheil Saakashvili's letter, the Georgian people should not let the country move towards Putin’s Russia and all together should return Georgia on a path leading to the West.

According to Saakashvili, now it is time to liberate and save Georgia, and the most necessary thing for that is unity. According to the third president of Georgia, great reconciliation and refusal of revenge are needed.

"I welcome you from a solitary confinement cell. I would exchange the rest of my life to be with you now. I am so close to many thousands of my compatriots, but cannot join you. Cannot join yet! My first and main wish is for Georgians to have a state distinguished by freedom and prosperity, justice and security. The ancient Europeans should have a European country, we should go to other European countries as tourists, to study, to do business, but we should always return home as I returned home. We should all return to our homeland, of which we are proud and where life will be wonderful. Why am I in Georgia today? I am here because I cannot be happy even in Ukraine, which is very close to me. I cannot be anywhere else when I see so much cruelty and misery in my beloved homeland. I cannot watch without emotion how people are fleeing our country and how Georgia is abandoned by the most talented, hardworking and decent people. I cannot stand aside and watch the destruction of our homeland, I’d rather to die, that's why I'm here!

I am here and I am determined to stay here and thus contribute to the defeat of the regime, to the struggle of the Georgian people against poverty, corruption and injustice. Together with the Georgian people, I will stand up to Ivanishvili's regime, which is dragging our homeland to Putin's Russia. We should not allow this together and we should all return Georgia together on a path leading to the West. Let us be a place of democracy, reforms and development”, said the third president of Georgia.

According to him, it is vital for the country to stop humiliating each other and spreading hatred towards each other.

“I have this spirit even though I am writing all this as an illegal prisoner from a prison cell. Another revenge will morally destroy our society and ultimately destroy our country. Big changes are going to happen. But for this we must forget all resentment, put aside the burden of our negative emotions, because without it, our country cannot move forward, a society angry with each other has never put its own country on the path of progress, has never created anything valuable and has always been defeated by its own anger and aggression. A civilized country cannot be based on strife, and if we want a civilized country, then we definitely need great reconciliation and refusal of revenge. No more failure and nihilism," Mikheil Saakashvili says in his letter.
