According to Wendy Sherman, the US pushed back on security proposals that are non-starters for the United States

First Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, the head of the US delegation, called her bilateral talks with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov "serious" and "businesslike."
Sherman said the meeting was more of a normal conversation than a negotiation, and that the US pushed back on security proposals that are non-starters for the United States.
The First Deputy Secretary of State noted that the United States came to the meeting with several proposals, including on the issues of deployment of missile defense in Europe and restrictions on military exercises. Wendy Sherman said actions should be reciprocal. She said the US side had rejected Russia's calls for a reduction of US troops in Eastern Europe, saying the issue was not on the agenda on January 10.
According to the American diplomat, Washington offered Russia another meeting to discuss the details of various issues.
