Citizens and European Socialists explain why they voted for Georgian Dream resolution in support of Ukraine

Apart from the members of the Georgian Dream faction, the deputies of two political groups - Citizens and European Socialists - voted for the resolution of the Parliament of Georgia "On possible military escalation in Ukraine".

Among the 74 members of parliament who supported the resolution are: Aleko Elisashvili, Levan Ioseliani, Pridon Injia, Davit Zilpimiani and Avtandil Enukidze.

As Levan Ioseliani told InterpressNews, they did not like the draft resolution, believing that the document needed to mention the Russian Federation, but not voting for a document expressing support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity would not be the right decision.

According to European Socialist MP Davit Zilpimiani, the resolution of the parliament is a document adopted in a very unprofessional, wrong and shameful way. However, he added that when it comes to supporting Ukraine, they could not refuse to vote.

The Parliament of Georgia passed a resolution in support of Ukraine by 74 votes at the first plenary session of the spring session.

"On possible military escalation in Ukraine" - this is the name of the document adopted by the Parliament. The author and initiators of the document are the Georgian Dream MPs: - Giorgi Khelashvili, Maka Bochorishvili, Levan Karumidze, Givi Mikanadze and Tamar Taliashvili.

The draft resolution has not been signed by any parliamentary group except the representatives of the Georgian Dream. The main reason for the criticism from the opposition is that the Russian Federation is not mentioned in any point of the draft.

Michał Kobosko - we hope that your government eventually would either choose the European way, the democratic way or would resign seeing the number, the size and scale of the citizens' protests
