Ministry of Internal Affairs releases statement on detention of protesters in Batumi

During the protest rally in front of the Government House of Adjara in Batumi, law enforcers detained 25 people under Articles 173 and 166 of the Code of Administrative Offences.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 2 of the detainees were released, while the other detainees were transferred to a temporary detention facility.

"During the rally that started last night in the streets of Batumi, the police took all necessary measures to protect the rights of those gathered and public order.

Law enforcers ensured the march of the protesters with maximum protection of security measures.

Later, protesters set up tents in front of the Adjara Government House and caused an artificial blockage of the road.

Due to the large number of people gathered in full compliance with the law, the police restricted the traffic in the streets of Batumi, and when the number of protesters decreased, it was no longer necessary to block the road to ensure public order and traffic.

Despite numerous calls and warnings from the police, the protesters did not obey the lawful request of the representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to leave the road and continued their illegal actions, after which they were arrested.

Two of the detainees were later released, while the other detainees were transferred to a temporary detention facility," the agency said.
