Roberta Metsola: The feeling that I had 18 years ago, when 10 countries joined the European Union, is a moment that will always stay with me - today, people in Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova are looking at us for the same purpose

"I'm so proud to be here today. Among the many speeches we heard today, I think there was one major message: the future of Europe is still unwritten and our history depends on you," Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, said at the conference marking the Europe Day.

Speaking on the issue of Ukraine, Roberta Metsola said that "the aggression similar to the medieval one launched by Russia on February 24 changed the world."

"The world after February 24 is completely different. More dangerous. The role of Europe changed with it. We cannot waste more time. How we have responded to the invasion and how we continue to respond is a test of our values. We are once again at a crucial moment for European integration and no proposal should be ignored," she said.

She said she remembers well the day when her country - Malta and 9 other European states joined the European Union.

"This feeling that I had 18 years ago, when 10 countries joined the European Union, is a moment that will always stay with me. Today, people in Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova, in the Western Balkans, are still looking at us for the same purpose. Obviously, every country has its own way, but we should not be afraid to change Europe for the better, as in the case of my country," said Roberta Metsola.
