Former City Assembly MP Ilia Jishkariani accused of sexual offense acquitted by court

Ilia Jishkariani, a former member of the City Assembly, was found not guilty by a Tbilisi city court on charges of sexual offense.

The decision was announced by Tbilisi City Court Judge Lia Orkodashvili.

According to the judge, some journalists will give this decision a political overtone. According to Orkodashvili, a guilty verdict is made when there is a sufficient amount of evidence to prove the accusation, and if there is the slightest doubt, it is decided in favor of the accused.

According to Ilia Jishkariani, this incident was related to his discreditation.

For reference, Ilia Jishkariani, a majoritarian MP from the Isani District Council, was charged on September 30, 2019, with other sexual acts and violence against Tamta Todadze, a specialist of his representative bureau.

Jishkariani was sentenced to 10,000 GEL bail as a measure of restraint.
