According to the annual report submitted to the Parliament by Prosecutor General Irakli Shotadze, out of 431 persons charged in 2021, 117 were servants of various ranks.

According to the report, in 2021, as in previous years, most of the accused public servants were representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and local self-government bodies.

Of the 117 people charged in 2021, 59 were representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to the report, in 2021 investigations were launched into 272 criminal cases related to corruption. The main basis for initiating an investigation was a statement/complaint, information obtained as a result of operational activities, information provided by the State Audit Office and/or the Financial Monitoring Service.

In 2021, the Prosecutor's Office launched criminal proceedings against 280 persons, including 16 legal persons, for committing corruption crimes. Compared to the previous year, the rate of initiation of criminal prosecution has increased by 22%.

In 2021, criminal proceedings were instituted against 112 persons who were employed in the public sector at the time of the corruption crime, accounting for 42% of the total number of accused natural persons. 14 of them were high-ranking officials, including: Deputy Minister, chairman of a legal entity under public law, vice-president of a legal entity under public law, Deputy Mayor, members of city assembly, etc. It should be noted that the majority of the accused public servants were persons employed in local self-government bodies (a total of 68 persons, 60%).

According to the report, in 2021, 135 people were convicted of corruption. 7 of them held high positions at the time of the commission of crime. All of them were employed in local self-government bodies.
