On August 8, APM Terminals Poti opened the memorial that marks the spot where the port employees lost their lives during the August 2008 war.
According to APM Terminals Poti, the opening ceremony was attended by the family members of the victims, Managing Director of APM Terminals Poti Julian Fernandez, Mayor of Poti Municipality Beka Vacharadze and Chairman of the City Council Aleksandre Tkebuchava.
,,We are gathered here today in memory of our dear colleagues Mamuka Katsadze, Zurab Nanava and Levan Turava, who lost their lives during the August 2008 war. Although I was not in Georgia at that time, I am well aware of the tragic facts of that day. Our company and our people have never forgotten the names of our fallen colleagues, nor their value as responsible, hardworking, dedicated employees. Our company strongly stands on our values in which constant care for our people is of paramount importance. As a company of strategic importance for the country and its economy, we continue to expand and develop as a safer, better, bigger place for our people. Nothing is more vital than the safety and welfare of our people and community, and so let us take this time as an opportunity to reflect and hope for a safer and better future for us and the generations to come," Julian Fernandez stated at the commemoration ceremony.
