Salome Zurabishvili: I signed the appointment of Davit Bakradze not because someone forced me, or because I was afraid of something, but because wanted to ensure that there is no delay because of me, especially as the UN General Assembly is due to be held in 3 weeks

President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili explains the reasons for signing the decree appointing Davit Bakradze as the ambassador of Georgia to the United Nations.

As Zurabishvili notes, she did not make this decision because "someone forced her or because she was afraid of something".

According to the President, the UN General Assembly will be held in 3 weeks, and based on this and the interests of the country, she signed Bakradze's appointment.

“I will tell you about some specific issues, why I made certain decisions. This refers, first of all, to a very high-profile case concerning our former ambassador to America and now our permanent representative to the United Nations. I expressed my position, my professional position, about his activities for 5 years.

I signed the appointment not because someone forced me, or because I was afraid of something, but because I signed all the submissions so that to ensure that there is no delay because of me, especially as the UN General Assembly is due to be held in 3 weeks. It is really in the interests of our country to ensure the presence of a plenipotentiary ambassador of Georgia at the General Assembly at the moment when very important issues will be discussed there", said Zurabishvili.

According to her, without going through the confidential consultations, she received the submissions of 7 more ambassadors to sign. The President of Georgia believes that the mentioned issue should be considered by the Constitutional Court. According to Zurabishvili, she is looking forward to the decision of the Constitutional Council.
