Irakli Zarkua: There are people focused on the circulation of topics invented by the activists of the National Movement

I am addressing Ms. Kelly Degnan - when USAID comes out with Eka Gigauri's conclusions, it is difficult for us to convince the population of Georgia that the USA and international organizations serve truth and justice, Georgian Dream MP Irakli Zarkua told journalists.

According to Zarkua, USAID is misled.

"I would like to address the US Ambassador to Georgia Ms. Degnan: USAID is an organization that has been supporting Georgia in a number of reforms for years. There are people in the USAID, who are focused on the circulation of topics invented by the activists of the National Movement. Until 2012, Georgia was on the 70th place in the corruption index. After 2012, we are in the 31st place. Moreover, among 200 states, Georgia ranks first in terms of budget transparency. These are the assessments of international organizations.

How can such a country be in the vortex of corruption, as it was said?! This only indicates that they are relying on wrong conclusions - the conclusions of Ms. Eka Gigauri, who was one of the captains of Vano Merabishvili's regime," said Irakli Zarkua.

"As it became clear over the past decade that the richest oligarch in Georgia has captured the state, their research examined the impunity of corrupt officials, Georgia’s growing economic dependence on Russia, and the oligarch’s secret businesses in Russia," the Dekleptification Guide released by USAID says in relation to Transparency International Georgia's research. The USAID's guide is a new handbook for uprooting entrenched corruption and seizing windows of opportunity to dismantle kleptocracy.
