Police prevent Droa representatives and civil activists to hold rally near Larsi checkpoint

Droa party representatives and civil activists were not allowed by the police to hold a rally at the Larsi border checkpoint.

Droa representatives and civil activists are currently in Gveleti, near the tunnel that is connected to the Larsi checkpoint, however, according to the decision of the police mobilized on the spot, the demonstrators are not allowed to go through the tunnel and reach Larsi.

As the Deputy Chief of the Patrol Police Department, Kakha Bukhradze, told the representatives and activists of Droa, it is difficult to move from the Larsi checkpoint to Georgia, and in order not to create a collapse, as well as to protect the safety of the demonstrators, the police will not allow them to reach the border checkpoint and to hold a rally.

As he explained to the rally participants, they will be able to hold a rally at the place where they are now - in Gveleti.

"We cannot let you due to security measures. A large flow is coming from Russia. We cannot allow you to hold a rally there in order to prevent collapse," Bukhradze said.

The representatives of Droa told the police that they were not going to block the road. According to them, the goal of the rally is for the Russian citizens entering Georgia to see their posters. The demonstrators believe that the request of the police is not legal, but it is not their goal to confront the police.

"Our task is to protest against Russian citizens entering Georgia. We will hold banners and tell Russian citizens who are entering Georgia that they are not welcome here," said Giga Lemonjava, representative of Droa.

Based on the above, Droa representatives and activists will hold a rally in Gveleti. They are holding banners showing the aggression that Russia committed against Georgia during the occupation of Samachablo and Abkhazia.

A large number of police are mobilized on the spot.
