Tbilisi Court of Appeals upholds decision of first instance court against Zurab Adeishvili and Davit Chakua in the so-called prison footage case

The Tbilisi Court of Appeals upheld the decision of the first instance court against the former Minister of Justice, Zurab Adeishvili, and the former chairman of the Penitentiary Department of the Ministry of Penitentiary and Legal Aid, Davit Chakua, who stand accused in the so-called prison footage case.

Both Zurab Adeishvili and Davit Chakua were sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison. They were also fined 5000-5000 GEL.

They were also deprived of the right to hold a position in the public service for 2 years and 3 months.

The prosecution demanded stricter punishment, while the defense demanded an acquittal of the convicts.

For information, the convicts are charged with organizing humiliating and inhuman treatment of prisoners, abuse of official authority, organizing falsification of evidence in a criminal case, influencing a witness and organizing a crime provocation.
