Kakha Kaladze: Georgian companies cannot take responsibility for the rehabilitation of metro stations after the ceiling collapsed in the Varketili metro, so we have problems with tenders

We have some problems in terms of the announced tenders for rehabilitation of metro stations, Georgian companies do not get involved, they cannot take responsibility for carrying out these works after the collapse of the ceiling in the Varketili metro, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said at the meeting of the Tbilisi Government.

According to him, work on the renovation project of Tbilisi metro stations, which aims at the complete rehabilitation and renovation of 11 metro stations, is being carried out together with the European Development and Reconstruction Bank.

"All [Georgian] companies are reluctant to participate in these projects, therefore, with the involvement of international financial organizations, with their support, tenders will be announced for the rehabilitation of 11 metro stations, and international and foreign companies will have the opportunity to participate in this project," added Kaladze.

According to Kaladze, the said project involves the rehabilitation of the platform, including the renewal of escalators with modern models.

As the Mayor of Tbilisi added, the cost of the mentioned project is 44,000,000 US dollars.
