Andrew Weber: I welcome the opening of doors for refugees from Russia’s corrupt system, they don't want to fight against their fraternal Ukrainians in this terrible war

I think, in fact, in this difficult period, Georgia holds the strongest strategic position, the former US Assistant Secretary of Defense, Andrew Weber, said in a conversation with Georgian journalists, thus answering the question of what threats the country faces from Russia, considering that part of our territory is occupied.

"We are watching how terribly the Russian military are presenting themselves in the war in Ukraine. Many people are surprised by their weakness. There is corruption and incompetence, and I think this puts Georgia in a stronger position than it has ever been," said the former American high-rank official.

At the same time, he answered a question about the influx of Russian citizens into Georgia and emphasized that he welcomes Georgia's move to open the door to people who do not want to participate in the war in Ukraine.

"We see that thousands of Russian men are trying to avoid participating in this disgraceful, unprovoked attack against Ukraine. They come to Georgia, Kazakhstan. I welcome the opening of doors for refugees from the corrupt system. They don't want to fight against their fraternal Ukrainians in this unnecessary, terrible war," Andrew Weber noted.
