Paata Manjgaladze: Strategy Builder expressed no confidence towards the selection process of the Public Defender - it is a farce that serves to push the government's preferred candidate

Strategy Builder expressed no confidence towards the selection process of the Public Defender - it is a farce that serves to push the government's preferred candidate, Strategy Builder MP Paata Manjgaladze told reporters.

As he noted, the argumentation of Georgian Dream regarding Ana Abashidze is incomprehensible, as well as the statements about Giorgi Burjanadze indicate that the process is a farce.

"Strategy Builder expressed no confidence towards the selection process of the Public Defender If Georgian Dream wanted to select an independent, professional candidate, it would not change the good practice by which Ucha Nanuashvili and Nino Lomjaria were elected at the time. Then they came up with the so-called "Belgrade rules", which they actually need in order to oust the candidate they want. According to the old rules, you know that the candidates are nominated by us, if Georgian Dream wants a really independent candidate, we can make an agreement today and we promise to support these candidates. Setting preconditions is very bad, I understand the argumentation regarding Nazi Janezashvili, but I don't know what it is based on in the case of Abashidze. In such a case, one candidate remains - Giorgi Burjanadze, and a consensus is possible regarding him. If Georgian Dream excludes Janezashvili, Abashidze, and we have also seen statements about Burjanadze, where they said that Burjanadze is a politician and they are candidates nominated by rich NGOs, it is this process towards which Strategy Builder expressed no confidence, this is a farce initiated with "Belgrade rules", which serves to push the government's preferred candidate

We request the selection of the nominated candidate in accordance with good practice. The only constitutional body left is the Public Defender, which cannot be controlled by Georgian Dream, and if it happens that they will be able to push their candidate, the government will have total control over all constitutional bodies," Manjgaladze said.
