Levan Davitashvili: Georgia plays a very important role for the European Union not only as a beneficiary, but also as a partner country

According to the Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Levan Davitashvili, Georgia plays a very important role for the European Union not only as a beneficiary, but also as a partner country.

According to Levan Davitashvili, the initiator and author of the project was Georgia.

"First of all, it should be emphasized that the initiator and author of this project was Georgia. That is, the Government of Georgia submitted this project to the European Union, and we, in terms of cooperation with the European Union, brought connectivity, including cooperation in various fields, to the fore. Inter alia, direct connection in terms of energy exchange was very important for us. This is a consistent continuation of the policy we are making in terms of integration with the European Union, including in the economic part, it is the same as our membership in the Energy Union, and all these steps will ultimately lead to Georgia's integration into the EU energy market.

The study of the project is also being carried out by Georgia at this stage, this should also be emphasized because Georgia spends money on this project at the design stage, the technical-economic study is being carried out by an Italian company. Next year we should have a completed project in order to move to the implementation stage. Georgia has already spent several million in this study, and finally it turned out that the project will require several billions of investments because it is the longest connecting power transmission line under the sea in the world. Accordingly, we think that the preliminary estimated cost of the project may be approximately $3 billion. Therefore, we especially emphasize the cooperation with the four parties, because the involvement of these 4 countries increases the importance and probability of success of the project, and the success of the project is very important for us, first of all, for the economy and energy security of our country. Also, we often talk about the fact that Georgia plays a very important role for the European Union as a partner country and not only as a beneficiary country. We can be useful to the European Union in many ways, including as an alternative reliable country connecting with the countries of Central Asia and the South Caucasus, not only in the energy direction, but also information technologies, cargo turnover, etc.”, said Levan Davitashvili.
