Mikheil Sarjveladze: I do not see any problem with the opening of a new channel that will give the opportunity to the Georgian population living in Russia to travel to Georgia directly, not through Azerbaijan or Armenia

Mikheil Sarjveladze, the chairman of the Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee of the Parliament, does not see any problem in the possible resumption of direct flights from Russia.

As he told the journalists, in the background when it is possible for a Russian citizen to travel to Georgia by car, or a Georgian citizen to Russia, direct flights will give the Georgian population the opportunity to arrive in Georgia directly, not through Armenia or Azerbaijan.

Sarjveladze responded to the opposition's criticism that the Kremlin's messages coincide with the rhetoric of Georgian Dream:

"For those who care most about the statements made by Russian officials, they can base their own conclusions on such opinions. For us, it only matters what is valuable for the population of our country. I don't think anyone has any grounds or reason for any speculations as if the rhetoric of the Georgian side and the Russian side might somehow coincide with each other.

In the background when it is possible for a Russian citizen to travel to Georgia by car, or a Georgian citizen to Russia, direct flights will give the Georgian population the opportunity to arrive in Georgia directly, not through Armenia or Azerbaijan. Technically, the opening of a new channel that will give the opportunity, for example, to the Georgian population living in Russia, to travel to Georgia to visit their family, not through Armenia, Azerbaijan, but to travel directly, I do not see any problem with this, on the contrary, it will be more comfort for the Georgian population”, - said Sarjveladze.

Regarding the issue that the above can be interpreted as a pro-Russian argument, Sarjveladze said:

"This is absolutely unacceptable rhetoric offered by the opposition today to deceive the population of our country, as if having a flight means, for example, going back to the direction of occupation," said Sarjveladze.
