Georgian citizen, illegally detained by Russian occupation forces near Perevi village, released

Georgian citizen Gela Iobashvili, who was illegally detained by the Russian occupation forces in the occupied territory near the village of Perevi, Sachkheri municipality, is free and is in the territory controlled by the central government. The State Security Service of Georgia disseminated the above information.

According to them, both the hotline mechanism and all other tools at the disposal of the central government were actively used for the immediate release of the illegally detained Georgian citizen.

"The issue of the release of Gela Iobashvili from illegal detention had been regularly discussed in the format of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism, and the information was provided to the international partners and the co-chairs of the international discussions in Geneva.

Responsibility for all destructive actions carried out in the occupied regions of Georgia and along the occupation line rests with the occupying power.

The central government, together with international partners, continues to work actively to release all citizens of Georgia who are illegally detained in the occupied territories," reads the information.
