Deputy Minister of Economy of Russia: From January 2023, we have been observing the largest increase in trade turnover with Georgia - almost 70% compared to 2022

According to the Ministry of Economy of Russia, in 2022, Russia became the main trade partner of Georgia, the foreign trade volume of which exceeded 16%.

According to the TASS news agency, the Deputy Minister of Economy of Russia, Dmitry Volvach, announced the above during his speech at the economic forum, which is called "Perspectives for the development of economic relations between Russia and Georgia".

"From January 2023, we have been observing the largest increase in trade turnover - almost 70% compared to 2022. Export increased by 85%, import - by 40%. 71 regions of Russia support trade and economic relations with Georgia to varying degrees. I think the number of participants in such regional economic interaction will be increasing. Separately, I would like to mention that according to the statistics of Georgia, in the period of January-February 2023, Russia took the first place among the trade partners of Georgia with a share of more than 16%, which left behind the leader of these statistics - Turkey", said the Deputy Minister.

According to him, the structure of Russian exports to Georgia in 2022 included mineral products, oil products, gas, food products, chemical products, metals, machinery.

"Compared to previous years, we see a very serious economic rapprochement, which can create a basis for wider economic cooperation. The right steps are being taken in this direction, as expected," said the Deputy Minister.
