Shalva Papuashvili: In 2019-2020, our partners called on Russia to lift sanctions in relation to Georgia, both in terms of visas and flights - such a decision was made in this case

The imposition and removal of sanctions is Russia's issue, and in this regard we could not have any influence, - the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, said while commenting on the cancellation of the visa regime by Russia for Georgian citizens and the lifting of the ban on flights to Georgia for airlines.

As Shalva Papuashvili pointed out, Georgia conscientiously follows the European application.

According to him, Georgia will not become a territory where it is possible for any legal or physical person to circumvent the sanctions imposed against Russia.

"In 2019-2020, our partners called on Russia to remove these sanctions in relation to Georgia, both in terms of visas and flights. In this case, such a decision has been made. Georgia has clearly stated two things - that we will follow the European application in good faith and that Georgia will not become a territory where it is possible for any legal or physical person to circumvent the sanctions imposed on Russia, and Georgia fulfills these promises honestly and conscientiously. Georgia is not going to impose bilateral sanctions on Russia and we will follow this principle as well. I think that the international community, as well as our population, are convinced that this is the most correct and honest approach - on the one hand, we help the international efforts to force Russia to stop its aggressive war in Ukraine by sanctions. On the other hand, we do not impose additional bilateral sanctions based on the national interests of our population, so as not to escalate relations, because, of course, Georgia is still at increased risk of a possible military conflict with Russia. Therefore, our national interest dictates that relations should not be escalated", said Shalva Papuashvili.

Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Georgia Meline Arakalian - to be frank, I think it will take a lot of time to rebuild the trust in the Georgian government
