Deputy of the Russian State Duma Zurab Makiyev sent a statement to the Prosecutor General of Russia Igor Krasnov, requesting an inspection of the Azimuth airline relating to the removal of the occupied "South Ossetia" and Abkhazia from the list of states posted on the airline's website.
"The Russian airline Azimuth removed Abkhazia and South Ossetia from the list of countries posted on the website for registration. The technical support of the airline offers citizens of South Ossetia to indicate their national passport as the national passport of a citizen of Georgia. Please check Azimuth Airlines' compliance with Russian law, given that the Russian Federation recognized the independence of the republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in 2008.
Perhaps, in order to increase revenues, the Russian company is sabotaging the state foreign policy. This situation can have extremely negative consequences, because in the presence of a similar precedent, tomorrow, due to commercial benefits, they may exclude the Republic of Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions from the Russian Federation," reads the statement.
Makiev also sent another letter to Alexander Neradko, the head of the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency.
"If this information is confirmed, please immediately suspend the air transport license of Azimuth Airlines," the document said.
For information, Zurab Makiyev was born in Tbilisi. He represents the United Russia party and the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania in the State Duma.
