As a result of the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Georgia in South Africa and the Maritime Transport Agency, Georgian sailors were released from captivity on May 21, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.
According to them, they are undergoing medical examination in Nigeria and their health condition is satisfactory.
"The sailors will return to homeland in the next few days. Their travel is provided by the employing company.
On May 2, Georgian sailors were kidnapped from a ship sailing under the flag of the Marshall Islands in the territorial waters of Gabon, Central Africa. Since then, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, the Embassy of Georgia in South Africa and the Maritime Transport Agency have been working continuously to help the citizens of Georgia. The consul of Georgia in South Africa was also in constant contact with the representatives of the Gabonese Embassy in Pretoria and the employing company.
