Ministry of Internal Affairs launches investigation into incidents at Tbilisi State University and Khechinashvili clinic, as well as incident relating to Zurab Japaridze

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched investigations into the incident relating to Girchi- More Freedom leader Zurab Japaridze, the clashes that took place at Tbilisi State University and the confrontation that happened at the Khechinashvili clinic.

In particular, as the Ministry of Internal Affairs told InterPressNews, the investigation into the attack on Zurab Japaridze was launched under Article 126 of the Civil Code, which pertains to violence. Under the same article, an investigation was launched on the incident between young people at Tbilisi State University, during which one of the students, Luka Shvelidze, was injured, and he was taken to the Khechinashvili clinic.

As for the incident at the Khechinashvili clinic, in which Luka Shvelidze, his mother and a law enforcement officer participated, the investigation was launched under Article 353 of the Criminal Code of the Criminal Code, which pertains to an attack on a police officer.

The incident in Khechinashvili was preceded by a confrontation at Tbilisi State University. During the lecture of Georgian Dream chairman and TSU lecturer Irakli Kobakhidze, young people confronted each other. It was during this confrontation that the student Luka Shvelidze was injured and was taken to the Khechinashvili clinic.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Luka Shvelidze and his relatives attacked the law enforcement officer who came to the Khechinashvili clinic for questioning. After the incident, Luka Shvelidze claimed that the person who entered his ward did not introduce himself as a police officer and threatened him with a weapon. According to his own statement, the mentioned person was drunk.
