Prosecutor's Office charges one person with violence against Zurab Japaridze

The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has filed charges against one person for the violence against Zurab Japaridze, the leader of Girchi - More Freedom, in Gori municipality.

The investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that on June 17, in the parking lot of a supermarket located on the Tbilisi-Senaki-Leselidze highway in Gori municipality, the accused committed violence against the founder of the Girchi More Freedom party due to his statements made in public space.

"Law enforcement officers arrested the mentioned person on the same day. He was charged under Article 126, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (violence that caused physical pain to the victim), which is punishable by up to one year in prison.

The Prosecutor's Office will apply to the Gori District Court within the time limit set by the law, with a motion to use pre-trial detention as a measure of restraint", - reads the statement issued by the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia.
