A representative of the Public Defender met the members of the National Movement detained during the confrontation in Gldani: Nika Melia, Bacho Dolidze and Zviad Kuprava.
According to the statement released by the Public Defender’s Office, the Public Defender of Georgia will continue to study the alleged violations of the rights of the detainees.
“On September 22, a representative of the Public Defender met with all three citizens detained during the Gldani developments. One of the detainees, Nikanor Melia, spoke about verbal and physical abuse by police officers. The Public Defender’s Office immediately informed the Special Investigation Service about the alleged ill-treatment and expects a quick and effective response.
According to the information available to the Public Defender of Georgia, the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained 3 persons during the confrontation in Gldani under the articles of petty hooliganism and disobedience to the legal demands of the law enforcement officers (Articles 166 and 173 of the Administrative Offences Code of Georgia).
The Public Defender of Georgia will continue to study the alleged violations of the rights of the detainees”, reads the statement released by the Public Defender.
