All the more so today, when the European future of Georgia is being decided, it is important for the country to cancel the "Russian decision" made by the National Bank, the Presidential Administration says in a statement.
According to the President's Administration, turning Georgia into a possible "black hole" is in the interests of only one country.
The President of Georgia does not violate the Constitution or the law. To rule out any speculations, we would like to remind you of Article 26 of the Organic Law "On Georgian Citizenship", according to which the term of consideration and decision of applications and submissions on issues of Georgian citizenship should not exceed 3 months.
As for the President's decision, she is fully aware of the legal and moral side of this issue. With this decision, the President gives state institutions the opportunity to take measures within a reasonable time and protect the country's reputation and interests. Especially today, when the European future of Georgia is being decided, it is important for the country to cancel the "Russian decision" made by the National Bank. Turning Georgia into a possible "black hole" is only in the interests of one country and directly contradicts the state's interests and our Euro-Atlantic path," the statement reads.
For information, the USA imposed sanctions on the former Prosecutor General of Georgia, Otar Partskhaladze. According to the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control, within the framework of the new sanctions package, sanctions were imposed on 24 individuals, including Otar Partskhaladze. The US State Department refers to Otar Partskhaladze as a Georgian-Russian oligarch with whom Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) worked to influence Georgian society and politics in Russia's favor.
The National Bank has adopted an exceptional rule, according to which international sanctions cannot be imposed on a Georgian citizen, unless there is a guilty verdict against him in a relevant case in a Georgian court.
