President of the Senate of Romania: Romania supports the steps taken by Georgia, including the reforms that are directed to the EU

“I am delighted to host the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, H.E. Shalva Papuashvili. Today’s visit manifests the good political relations between Romania and Georgia, including between our Parliaments”, the President of the Senate of Romania, Nicolae Ciucă stated at the joint briefing with Speaker Papuashvili.

According to him, Romania is one of the strong and open supporters of the European agenda undertaken by Georgia.

“My country was the first amongst the EU member states to ratify the EU-Georgia Association Agreement on July 3, 2014. Romania consistently supports the steps taken by Georgia, including the reforms directed to the EU. We aspire to encourage this process since it amounts to the chance for further development for Georgia and the Georgian people”, - Mr. Ciucă stated. According to him, Romania is committed to enhancing inter-parliamentary dialogue, including between the Committees, as a room for discussing the European agenda of Georgia. “I hail the conclusion of the joint Declaration on Cooperation at the level of the Parliamentary Delegation between the two countries. It is the moment that manifests the strategic partnership of our countries and confirms our bilateral interests in further enhancement of the dialogue and cooperation between Georgia and Romania. The European agenda is a central focus of our discussions but not the only topic we would like to bolster in our bilateral relations”, the President of the Romanian Senate noted.

According to him, Romania and Georgia have progressed the bilateral relations to a strategic partnership.

“We are committed to collaborating for further intensification of our partnership, I mean our cooperation in the Black Sea region and close economic and trade relations. We need to pay particular attention to project-based cooperation, especially the energy and connectivity projects. Green energy corridor and the Black Sea submarine cabling are two excellent examples of this cooperation. I value the open and sincere dialogue with the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia and would like to once again express my gratitude to Mr. Papuashvili for visiting Romania, which in my belief, is yet another step for the improvement of the dialogue between our countries”, Mr. Ciucă stated.
