Parliament plans to change procedure for electing and dismissing officials by secret voting

The procedure for making decisions on the election and dismissal of officials by the Parliament by secret voting is changing - such decisions will be taken by the Parliament by open voting instead of secret one.

This is one of the changes that are planned to be implemented at the initiative of the Georgian Dream deputies.

According to the draft amendments, the rule of open voting will apply, inter alia, to the impeachment of an official.

The rule of secret voting will be maintained only in the case of the election of the Speaker of the Parliament, because according to the Constitution, he must be elected by secret ballot.

As mentioned in the explanatory note, the procedure for electing and dismissing officials by open voting will make the decision-making process by the Parliament transparent.

The planned amendments will be submitted to the Parliamentary Bureau on October 9.
