Irakli Kobakhidze: It is impossible that the problem of oligarchs be solved only on the basis of legislative changes - oligarchs are in politics today and will probably continue their political activities

It is impossible that the problem of oligarchs be solved only on the basis of legislative changes - oligarchs are in politics today and will probably continue their political activities Irakli Kobakhidze, the chairman of Georgian Dream, said in connection with the deoligarchization action plan.

According to him, in general, legislation and action plans will not solve such type of problems, although some progress can be achieved on the basis of the action plan.

As Kobakhidze states, the former Minister of Defense, Davit Kezerashvili, has admitted that he circulates "black money" in Georgian politics.

"I personally am far from the opinion that the action plan will solve the problem of oligarchs in Georgia. The oligarchs are in politics today and will probably continue their political activities, although concrete steps will certainly be taken based on this action plan. As for the topic of party financing, all of this is based on the recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR, Venice Commission, and that is why it was reflected in the action plan for deoligarchization. If there is a categorical position of the opposition, then they should apply to the relevant structures. If they do not like these changes, then they will have to deal with the Venice Commission and the OSCE/ODIHR.

Once again, I am far from thinking that this action plan will solve the problem of oligarchs in politics. We have self-proclaimed politicians, oligarchs who are directly involved in politics, funding parties, media, non-governmental organizations, they will probably continue this activity, although some progress can be made based on this action plan.

In general, legislation, action plans, etc., are less likely to solve such types of problems. There is a perspective of some progress, but, of course, it is impossible to solve the problem of oligarchs only on the basis of legislative changes," said Kobakhidze.

Michał Kobosko - we hope that your government eventually would either choose the European way, the democratic way or would resign seeing the number, the size and scale of the citizens' protests
