Nobody has any objection to granting Georgia the status of a candidate for EU membership - we are getting status, why do you want to portray it as if we are not getting status because Hungary is our ally?! - Georgian Dream MP Irakli Kadagishvili told journalists.

As Kadagishvili pointed out, the issue that the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, is raising before the European Union is completely different in terms of content, and it cannot be mechanically linked to the status of Georgia's candidate.

"Don't conclude that something bad will happen for Georgia - don't be in a hurry to make fuss with bad things! On December 15, there is no problem with granting the candidate status to Georgia. What Orban is asking is about a problem of a different nature, and not about not granting the candidate status to Georgia. One is the issue of granting candidate status, and the other is the issue of opening accession negotiations. You want to combine these two issues to launch a week of anti-state propaganda. We have to accept that Europe is not always unanimous in everything - there will be different countries, different politicians, who may have different approaches to different issues. There is no problem with granting the candidate status to Georgia, neither from the European Commission, nor the European Council, nor Hungary," said Irakli Kadagishvili.

Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, sent a letter to the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, in which it is noted that the issues of Ukraine's accession to the EU and the allocation of 50 billion euros as aid to the country should be removed from the agenda of the planned EU summit, as they will fail anyway.
